Garrett Leight California Optical is an independently owned eyewear brand founded in Venice Beach in 2010. Inspired by the culture, creativity, people and places of California, GLCO brings a contemporary perspective to classic styles with iconic designs made from premium materials and the highest quality craftsmanship.
Elena Doukas was one of the very first employees of GLCO. In 2010, she started working at A.Kinney Court, Garrett Leight’s first concept store and became the store’s top salesperson. Together, her and Garrett, shared a love for eyewear and she helped him design a unique wholesale collection influenced by his hometown of Venice, CA. Now, with nearly 9 years under her belt, Elena is the Head Designer of GLCO and continues to be passionate about making quality eyewear for people to cherish for many years.
Each season Garrett and Elena turn to a different element or aspect of the city, and this season they found inspiration from the mecca of entertainment. Hollywood has always been an idea as much as a place, a play of surfaces and stories, the real and out of reach.The Spring/Summer 2019 Collection channels the early 80s scene with eyewear influenced by glamour, energy, and look of movies like “American Gigolo” and “Scarface”.
The collection features unique acetate silhouettes with generous curves, sculpted metal shapes with electric angular surfaces, and combination frames with retro cues and contemporary constructions. Inspired by the colors and iconography of the time, we developed custom acetates with a vibrant mix of bright Miami pastels and California natural tans and neutrals to create stylized classics straight out of Hollywood.
