EYEVAN

In 1972 EYEVAN made a start with a concept of “Eyewear for dressing as a fashion item” and in 1985 it made a sensational world debut.
EYEVAN product is known for its timeless design and, when we look into the hand-written drawings or archives of EYEVAN, we can see Japan’s genuine craftsmanship, as well as the creativity and the enthusiasm of the design team of those days.
In 2013, after around 40 years from the launch, a new design team reconstructed the brand EYEVAN 7285, based on the archives of EYEVAN, expressing what they think to be definitely beautiful.
The design sources taken from these archives are a variety of objects, such as vintage eyewear, telescopes, hand mirrors and old tools that the initial design team collected, and artifacts such as building structures and products of nature the designers saw.
These numerous design sources are blended together and transformed into eyewear.
For example, the temples come from French cutlery in 1940s, the metal frames come from the structure of an eye test equipment in 1970s and their parts are inspired by the arabesque patterns of old Japanese temples.
The products of EYEVAN 7285 are made by the combination of craftsmen’s handwork and state-of-the-art machine tools in Sabae, Fukui prefecture, which stands first in the production of eyewear in the world.
Combining both the traditional and the latest processes many of its designs, looking at first glance simple, are actually artful. Only a handful of craftsmen in Sabae, who are exceptionally skillful, make eyeglasses one by one through about 400 processes. It can be said that they are more like art works than industrial products.

While milgrain is placed both on the front and on the back, a brooch is created as one piece at the back of the nose to make titanium plate look like a rim line. Innovative structure and unique design are created by adding volume to 3mm titanium to come to a 5mm shaped brooch, which does not require to put screws at the closing block placing them high up. 0-base glass lenses are used for 48 size sunglasses.
Material – front: titanium; temples: ß-titanium.
Lens: gl (0 base), ar coat, water repellent.
